PCX Joins UN’s Waste Wise Cities Network

PCX recently joined the United Nation’s Waste Wise Cities as an affiliate, becoming part of a global network of organizations with the common goal of bolstering responsible waste management across the world.

The United Nations Human Settlements Programme, UN-Habitat, is the United Nations agency for human settlements. It is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all.

Waste Wise Cities was launched by UN-Habitat to address the increasing global waste management crisis. Through collaboration, cities can effectively tackle the waste management problem when regarding waste as a resource, contributing also to reducing global Green House Gas emissions and local air pollution. To be successful, cities must deal with their waste management issues in their context, while also learning from the experience of other cities. The international organization engages with member cities to provide various forms of support, from project resources such as data monitoring tools to educational resources on best practices and awareness-raising materials. Affiliates of the network are able to contribute their expertise to this broad range of content.

”With over 10 million metric tons of plastic entering our oceans each year, mismanaged plastic waste is profoundly threatening people and the environment, especially rivers and oceans,” shares Vincent Kneefel, PCX Solution’s Managing Director. “We are proud to partner with UN-Habitat with the goal to strengthen action when it comes to preventing, measuring, and managing waste at a local level. With strong commitments and action from cities, governments, and industry, we can end additional plastics in nature and ensure the safety of our communities and the environment.”
